Corsbie Bio/Resume: Modern Math, "My Father
is 1/2 Chinese 1/2 Venezuelan Amerindian 1/2 Welch 1/2 African
1/2 Trinidadian and 1/2 Guyanese. My Mother, from Tobago (the
Robinson Crusoe island), is 1/2 Scottish 1/2 Toboganian and
1/2 Guyanese. My grandchildren toss in Portuguese, East Indian,
Barbadian and Brazilian. I therefore can and do tick off all
the boxes in the U.S. census form."
In
Guyana, my home country for most of my life, and in all the
English speaking Caribbean islands and territories, I have
been storyteller, humorist, journalist, radio announcer and
producer, theatre designer/director/actor. Living in America
since 1996, I bring all of these experiences and skills (and
athlete/dancer) to my performances/workshops. I bring too,
the sounds of sea and rain forest, heat of sun, accents of
island voices, rhythms of calypso and carnival, humor and
sometimes humbug of living and loving in the Caribbean.

A

200 performances of story, song and poetry throughout the
English speaking Caribbean - from Belize and the Bahamas in
the North to Trinidad and Guyana in the South.

Produced
52 radio programs on Caribbean arts for the Caribbean News
Agency, and co-produced 30 half hour documentary programs
for the Caribbean Broadcasting Union Radio.
On-camera
narrator and co-writers of "Caribbean Eye" 13 half-hour
television documentaries on the arts and cultural aspects
of the Caribbean, for UNESCO. Produced by BANYAN of Trinidad.
Standup
Comedian in the Caribbean Comedy Festival circuit - Boston,
DC, Miami, Antigua, Barbados, Brooklyn, Queens, St.Thomas
Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands.
Eight
Awards for promotion and production of arts and culture in
the Caribbean.
Director
of Drama in the Cultural department and administrator/artistic
director of the Playhouse Theatre in Guyana. In 2001, devised
and directed a play for Stony Brook University with immigrant
students telling their stories.
Originator/director
of the first and second Caribbean Storytelling Festivals in
Barbados, and advised the Cayman Islands with their now annual
November GIMISTORY FESTIVAL.
Originator/coordinator
of Theatre Information Exchange (TIE), an association of theatre
activists throughout the English speaking Caribbean.
Member
of NSN (National Storytelling Network), LANES (New England
League of Storytellers), New York Storytelling Center and
EARS the Louisville KY Storytelling Guild.
With
